Insomniac's Tea

1 cup (240 ml) water
2 teaspoons (10ml) dried chamomile
1 teaspoon (5 ml) dried passionflower
1 teaspoon (5 ml) honey, optional


For thousands of years, chamomile has been mainstay ingredient in formulas for helping people feel more relaxed. And recent formal scientfic research indicates this herb may also help ease anxiety symptoms. Though little research has been done on passionflower, the studies that do exist suggest that it also has antianxiety effects. So if you want to help maximize your odds for a restful night's sleep after an especially stressful day, try this tea before bedtime. Bring the water to a gentle boil. Steep the chamomile and passionflower in the water for 10 to 15 minutes, keeping it covered to preserve the volatile oils. Strain the tea and add honey, if desired, then drink.
