Natures Best Kept Secret for Heartburn and Indigestion

Seaweed – Natures Best Kept Secret for Heartburn and Indigestion. Bloating and belching are common side effects of heartburn and indigestion. At first sign of any discomfort, take a spoonful of this soothing mixture of fennel, mint and irish moss. The seaweed coats and protects the stomach lining but also floats on top of the stomach contents, acting as a "raft" to calm things down and stop relfux. The mixture also works as an antacid, thanks to the baking soda.

Seaweed Stomach Soother

2 cups Irish moss – Chondrus crispus seaweed 
4 tbsp fennel seeds
4 tbsp mint leaves
2 cups (500 ml) water
2/3 cup (25 ml) glycerin
4 tbsp baking soda

 

1. Simmer the Irish moss, fennel seeds, and mint leaves in the water for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the liquid has reduced to 1 cup (250 ml).

2. Mix in a blender with the glycerin until smooth, then strain through a sieve covered with cheesecloth. Leave to cool.

3. Whisk in the baking soda, then pour the mixture through a funnel into a sterilized bottle.

Use: Take 2 tsp whenever you feel symptoms coming on. See your doctor if symptoms persist for more than a few days.

Storage: Keeps for 1 month in the refrigerator.
