All those potions and lotions in your bathroom cabinet are great at warding off lines and wrinkles, but there are some less obvious ways to score an ageless complexion.
- Eat more omega -3- rich foods.
Studies show that the omega-3 fatty acids found in fresh catches, such as salmon, mackerel, and albacore tuna, maintain skin's moisture, keeping it luminous. Not a seafood lover? Try walnuts, flaxseed, tofu, or pop a fish-oil supplement.
- Have some chocolate too.
The flavanol antioxidant in cocoa can create smoother, less scaly skin. Mix pure cocoa powder into your morning smoothie or top our salad with flavanol-rich fruits (apples and blueberries are prime picks).
- Take your vitamins.
It won't work overnight, but a regular multivitamin delivers a whole slew of nutrients (specifically zinc, iron, and vitamin A) that keep your skin, hair, and nails healthy and glowing in the long term.
- Sleep is essential.
Regular exercise increases blood flow to the surface of your skin, and just think of all the fun ways you can work up a sweat. At some point, though, you'll need shut-eye. So if you're getting less than seven hours every night, your skin will pay the price.
