Spotlight Family Living a Healthy Lifestyle

In our search for healthy families we decided to spotlight a family. We will be sharing stories, ideas, and their lives. Living alternatively can be a challenge, so we would like to share with you their stories of how they have changed their ways into a life that is more healthy. Using different alternative medicines work for many different people, and in that we would like to share their stories.

This section is dedicated to families who use alternative medicines in their lives. We have gathered families stories, ideas, alternative therapies, experiences and expertise, and will share them all with you.

What type of Alternative Therapies do you use?

We like to stay open to many alternative therapies for our family. If it requires research, we always do our best to examine the effects of a certain therapy to be sure it is the best decision for our specific needs. We honestly don't have a lot of therapies for sicknesses because we haven't had to use them. If we notice a little something creeping in, we usually use a 1:1 honey and vinegar solution as a drink to soothe and calm a sore throat or cough. For any digestive discomforts such as an upset stomach or a rare case of heartburn, we use a tsp of baking soda in 8 oz of water for almost immediate relief every time. I have made an absolutely wonderful bath soak that will relax and ease like nothing I've ever tried before. It is made of all natural ingredients that I can find at a health food store or coop. The recipe for this soak was given to me by a very experienced Naturopathic doctor who was helping me take care of a friend with Rheumatoid Arthritis. If this can help my friend, imagine the wonderful effects it can have for you! Here's the recipe:

AMAZING HEALING MINERAL-MUD FOR ACHES, PAINS & ARTHRITIS.

This, easy-to-find-ingredient recipe is wonderful for bathing in and helping relieve soreness and aching joints and muscles.

Soothing and relaxing, the Healing Mud draws out impurities from your body and deodorizes and takes away the pain in moments while nourishing the tissues, muscles and joints.

With many of the healing properties of a seaside spa, this formula is perfect for the day after a strenuous workout, or for any time you need a healing time-out.

For those suffering from chronic back pain, hip replacement trauma and Arthritic pain and inflammation, this formula will work wonders.

Ingredients:

2 cups Borax.
3 cups Epsom salts.
1cup coarse sea salt.
½ cup baking soda.
½ cup Bentonite white clay.
1 cup dried lavender.
20 drops lavender essential oil.

1. In a large bowl, mix together the borax, salts, baking soda and clay. Then mix in the dried lavender, stirring with a wire whisk.

2. Scent the mixture with the oil, mixing well with the whisk. Cover the bowl with a damp towel and leave overnight to fix the scent into the ingredients.

3. In the morning, thoroughly mix again for 3-5 minutes and package in big mason jars, zip-seal bags or muslin bags.

4. Add ½ cup of the mixture to a tubful of hot, hot filtered water.

5. Give the Healing Mud to a good therapeutic masseuse and have him or her massage it into the skin of the afflicted areas and leave on for 15 minutes, then hop into a bath of the mixture. You're better already!!!

There is also an incredible antibiotic syrup that you can mix up and take daily or when you feel it is necessary. You'll see his comments in the body of the recipe. I got this from the Naturopathic doctor as well - it's excellent!

ROSE KALAJIAN'S NATURAL HONEY ANTIBIOTIC SYRUP.

Rose Kalajian is a master herbalist, animal rights advocate and natural therapies healer. Her practice is in Wesley Chapel, Florida on a seven acre organic herb farm. She is highly skilled in the knowledge and uses of herbal medicine.

This is her very potent, natural antibiotic syrup which everyone should take each day.

1 bulb of fresh garlic, peeled and then crushed.
1 cup of organic black honey. (Other honey can be used.)
1 fresh lemon, quartered, WITH skin.

Place the crushed garlic, honey and the lemon in a blender.
Blend the contents until smooth.
Pour into a glass jar with a good lid.

DOSAGES:
1. Immune System: to give strength to the immune system consume by mouth, ½ teaspoon 3 times per day. Follow with 8-ounces of water.

2. Lower Cholesterol: follow the above dosage.

3. To Lower Blood Pressure: follow the above dosage.

4. If you are fighting cancer, TB, polio, a severe cold, have symptoms of SARS, AIDS/HIV/Lupus or Multiple sclerosis:

For an adult, consume one teaspoon ever hour for 10 hours a day.

For a child, half this dosage level.

It can also be taken in hot soy milk, stir thoroughly.

Or added to Pau d'Arco Herbal Tea.

Our family takes different supplements as well including flax oil and some highly concentrated elixirs that we have searched out for overall health.

How do you feel they have improved your lives?

The alternative therapies and supplements we use are a part of the balance we maintain for our overall health. We place a lot of priority on our dietary choices as well. We have a son who is almost 2 years old and he follows the same diet and alternative therapies we do. He has been incredibly healthy, with only one trip to the doctor for a fever that was relieved only a few days later. He hasn't had any ear infections at all which we have no doubt is directly related his diet and balance of alternative therapies.

Any stories you would like to share regarding alternative medicine experiences? There was a really good experience that we had with alternative therapies about 8 years ago when my husband got sick. He was feeling bad enough to have to be home from work and was sleeping and resting most of the time. We didn't use any conventional medicine at that time but this was the first time he had been that sick. We stuck to our guns about our beliefs in alternative therapies and administered the honey/vinegar solution about every 4 hours along with the use of homeopathic medicine which was designed to specifically target flu/cold symptoms in the body. He also took 9,000 mg of Vitamin C per day, which is recommended when your immune system needs the boost. We divided that up into 3, 3,000 mg doses per day. He drank lots of water and ate lightly to keep his digestive system from taking away a lot of energy from his immune system which is an important factor when trying to overcome disease in the body. Without the use of any over the counter or prescription medicines or even a trip to the doctor, my husband was up and feeling fantastic in about 4 days. He only had 2 days where he was feeling his worst. The other two were more for rest and recovery to be sure he wasn't pushing his body to fast and that he got to heal thoroughly. It was a great feeling for both of us to know that he hadn't put any unnatural substances into his body and that after that, his immune system was probably stronger than before because it was allowed to fight and become more powerful. But like I said previously, that is the last time either one of us was really sick so we are happy to say we don't have any current alternative medicine stories regarding ailments!

No, we do not.

What are your most favorite alternative medicine therapies?

The mud soak is a favorite of mine for anytime and honestly, good old Vitamin C is always a favorite stand-by!

Do you have any ideas you would like to share?

The vibrancy of our lives comes from opening our minds and listening to new ways of doing things. We learn as we grow and are grateful to those who spend their lives discovering healthier ways of living so that we may participate in their experiences for better qualities of life for our family. Each person and family needs to evaluate their health on a very personal level. Not all things work for all people. Take time to listen to your body and become aware of how you treat yourself. I've always treated my body as an extension of myself and I give it it's own "life" so whatever it is that I decide to do, I mentally consult my body to decide what feels right for me. We don't always want to rush into everything just because it's natural or new. Your body will tell you what it wants if you take the time to get to know it and listen.

We are just very grateful for our health, our happiness, for each other and our wonderful son. We live close to family and have wonderful friends. Those are the most important parts of our lives and we're glad to have the experiences.
